Proton Unlimited is one subscription and one Proton Account, covering paid access to six core products (Mail, Calendar, VPN, Drive, Pass and Wallet) under a single billing relationship. Alongside that paid core sit names a subscriber will also encounter but doesn’t automatically get at a paid level: Docs and Sheets live inside Drive rather than as separate subscriptions, Sentinel is an account setting, Scribe is a 14-day trial, and Authenticator, Meet and Lumo stay free whether or not Unlimited is purchased. The visible catalogue is larger than the paid entitlement.
One subscription does not automatically mean one product. Proton Unlimited is best described as a commercially unified bundle with selective workflow integration, distributed across largely separate applications: the purchase is coherent, a defined set of everyday workflows genuinely connect specific products, and most of the applications a subscriber actually opens remain separate pieces of software with their own interfaces.
This article sets out what’s included, which products genuinely work together, and how far that adds up to one connected suite.
One account does not mean one application. Proton Unlimited buys a shared login and a shared billing relationship. It does not, by itself, buy a shared interface.
Proton Unlimited product-status table
Six distinct classes of inclusion appear across the catalogue, and they are not interchangeable: a paid entitlement, a bundle-specific paid entitlement, an embedded tool, an account-level feature, a promotional trial, and free-tier access that the subscription does not change.
| Product / capability | Unlimited status | Class | Main entitlement | Separate interface required | Standalone equivalence | Key caveat |

The six paid core products
The paid core ranges from mature, near-complete entitlements to newer additions with unresolved edges.
Mail and Calendar
Mail and Calendar form one of the strongest genuine workflow relationships in the subscription. Unlimited includes 15 Proton Mail addresses and 3 custom domains, with catch-all on those domains, and Bridge for connecting Mail to third-party desktop clients. Calendar allows up to 25 calendars, with appointment scheduling available.
Invitations, event creation and navigation flow through a shared workflow between the two products, and interfaces overlap across web, mobile and desktop. That is a connected workflow, not a merged product: Proton’s public documentation does not show a shared backend or unified data model behind Mail and Calendar. Full Mail Plus equivalence hasn’t been established, and Calendar’s sharing-permission parity and offline behavior remain unresolved across every environment.
Proton VPN
Proton Unlimited includes premium VPN access that is substantially equivalent to VPN Plus on the current plan record, with up to 10 simultaneous connections. It’s one of the plan’s most mature and commercially significant inclusions.
Its contribution to suite coherence is much smaller than its commercial weight. VPN requires its own native application, browser extension, and separate router or TV setup depending on platform, and its connection to the rest of Unlimited runs only through the shared account and billing relationship, no wider workflow integration with the other five core products is established.
Feature availability is also platform-dependent. (Proton’s own documentation shows an unresolved conflict between a current and an older server-count figure; this is a documentation-precision issue, not a change to the entitlement itself.) Protocol security, audits and infrastructure resilience sit outside this article’s scope.
Proton Drive
Drive is a bundle-specific paid entitlement rather than a portable standalone plan. Its clearest coherence signal is the 500 GB base storage allocation, principally documented across Mail and Drive together — one shared account-level quota rather than two separate allocations. File-link and attachment workflows connect Drive to Mail day to day.
That shared quota is a genuine point of coherence, but Drive still runs through its own interface, and Linux sync support and exact accounting for usage across the wider portfolio within the shared pool both remain unresolved.
Proton Pass
Pass carries a strong paid entitlement that is substantially equivalent to Pass Plus: 50 vaults and unlimited hide-my-email aliases. It also includes selected SimpleLogin-derived capabilities (custom alias domains, additional mailboxes and sending from aliases) delivered through Pass.
This is one of the strongest examples of direct technical integration in the bundle, going further than the workflow-level linkage found elsewhere. Even so, complete standalone SimpleLogin Premium equivalence hasn’t been established, a separate SimpleLogin dashboard may still be involved for some functions, and downgrade behavior for aliases and forwarding is unresolved.
Proton Wallet
Wallet is a limited, bundle-specific paid entitlement: 10 wallets with up to 10 accounts each, delivered through its own dedicated interface and connected to the rest of Unlimited only through the shared account and billing relationship.
Wallet has the weakest integration evidence of the core paid products, with native-platform coverage, regional availability, storage accounting and downgrade consequences all unresolved. It makes the subscription broader, but it does little to make Proton’s other products easier to use together. This article does not assess Wallet’s cryptocurrency security.
Embedded tools, account features, free products and trials
Not everything shown is a paid benefit. Several Proton products appear inside the Unlimited experience without being paid upgrades at all.
Docs and Sheets are not identical, despite sharing the Drive interface. Docs is current, embedded directly in Drive, and requires no separate subscription. Sheets is materially less evidenced: consumer availability under Unlimited is unresolved, accounting within the storage pool is unresolved, and rollout is described as staged. Recent release activity for Sheets doesn’t establish confirmed entitlement.
Sentinel is an account-level paid feature, not a separate product. Because it sits at the account layer rather than inside one application, it is structurally broader than a product-specific feature. Its activation details, intervention scope, retained history and downgrade behavior are all unresolved, which limits how far that breadth can be read as proven, universal protection.
Scribe is a 14-day promotional trial embedded in the Mail composer, with narrow platform support and no established continuing entitlement inside Unlimited. Its consumer add-on route after the trial is unresolved.
Authenticator, Meet and Lumo remain visible inside Proton’s product environment, but none receive a paid upgrade through Unlimited. Authenticator remains a free standalone product, while Meet and Lumo remain on their free entitlements. Proton Unlimited does not provide a paid upgrade for any of the three — Meet Professional and Lumo Plus are both sold separately, and no Unlimited-specific Authenticator benefit is established. This is a clarification of entitlement, not a criticism of the products.
How the products actually work together
The decisive question is narrow: do the shared account, shared storage, and a small set of genuine cross-product workflows reduce enough friction to make the subscription feel like one working system, rather than several separately operated products sold together?
| Relationship | What connects | Integration type | Separate app required | Key limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mail – Calendar | Invitations, event creation, navigation | Linked workflow; partly same interface | Largely shared surfaces | Backend/contact-level integration not established |
| Mail – Drive | File links and attachments | Linked workflow; application handoff; shared storage | Yes | Whether every attachment becomes a Drive object is unresolved |
| Mail – Pass | Alias generation tied to email identity | Linked workflow; application handoff | Yes | Alias metadata handling unresolved |
| Drive – Docs | Document creation and editing | Same interface; embedded tool | No | Offline/mobile accounting unresolved |
| Drive – Sheets | Spreadsheet capability | Same interface; embedded, staged | No | Universal consumer access unresolved |
| Pass – SimpleLogin | Alias infrastructure, selected premium functions | Direct technical integration for selected functions | Possibly (separate dashboard) | Complete Premium parity unresolved |
| Sentinel – Proton Account | Account-wide monitoring | Account-level feature | No | Intervention scope unresolved |
| VPN – Proton Account | Authentication, billing | Shared account and billing only | Yes | No wider workflow linkage established |
| Wallet – Proton Account | Authentication, billing | Shared account and billing only | Yes | No wider workflow linkage established |
The shared account, shared billing, and shared Mail/Drive storage quota are unambiguous and consistently documented#, this is where Proton Unlimited’s coherence is strongest. But Proton’s public documentation does not show that these products share one backend or data model. What exists is workflow-level linkage: genuinely useful where it appears, but distinct from technical integration except for Pass–SimpleLogin, where the record specifically describes direct technical integration for selected functions. VPN and Wallet connect only through the shared account, and Meet, Lumo and Authenticator show no Unlimited-specific linkage at all.
Where Proton Unlimited remains separate
Most of the portfolio still requires its own application or interface: Mail (plus Bridge), Calendar, VPN (native app, extension, router or TV route), Drive, Pass (apps, web and extensions), Wallet, Authenticator, Meet, Lumo, and potentially a separate SimpleLogin dashboard. Only Docs (and, contingently, Sheets) are embedded rather than separately interfaced, and Sentinel is an account setting rather than an application.
Separate applications aren’t automatically a weakness: specialized interfaces can preserve depth. The friction is practical: a subscriber using most of the bundle has to install and learn several independent applications, no unified search or cross-product management surface exists, and platform support is uneven enough that strength on one product doesn’t carry over to the next.
Apps and platform availability
Platform coverage differs by product. Strong coverage on one product doesn’t extend to the rest of the bundle.
| Product | Main platforms | Separate interface | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web, Windows, macOS, Android, iOS | Yes (plus Bridge) | Linux support needs verification; Bridge is separate | |
| Calendar | Web, mobile, shared desktop surfaces | Largely shared with Mail | Sharing configuration is web-only in some workflows |
| VPN | Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, extensions, routers/TV | Yes | Capability differs by platform |
| Drive | Web, Windows, macOS, Android, iOS | Yes | Linux sync unresolved |
| Docs / Sheets | Web (embedded in Drive) | No | Native/offline behavior and Sheets rollout unresolved |
| Pass | Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, extensions | Yes | Some features are interface-dependent |
| Wallet | Web/product surface | Yes | Native-platform and regional coverage unresolved |
| Sentinel | Account settings (web-managed) | No (account setting) | Not a product app |
| Scribe | Mail web, macOS desktop | No (embedded) | Narrow platform support |
| Authenticator | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS | Yes | No Unlimited upgrade |
| Meet | Web/browser | Yes | Mobile status unresolved; no Unlimited premium |
| Lumo | Web, Android, iOS; desktop varies | Yes | Unlimited gets free entitlement only |
| SimpleLogin | Web/dashboard, client where available | Possibly separate | Full dashboard entitlement unresolved |
Storage, addresses and aliases
Storage
Proton Unlimited includes a 500 GB base allocation, principally documented across Mail and Drive.
The 500 GB figure is primarily a Mail and Drive allocation, not a confirmed shared pool across every Proton product.
Accounting for Docs, Sheets, Pass records and attachments, Calendar data, and Wallet data within or outside this pool is unresolved. Storage bonuses are conditional and may be lost on downgrade, and using storage beyond the plan limit can restrict some functions until usage is reduced or the plan is upgraded.
Addresses and aliases
The identity toolkit is built from two distinct architectures, not one unified system: Mail addressing and Pass/SimpleLogin aliasing. Mail covers a primary address, additional addresses within the 15-address allowance, custom-domain addresses within the 3-domain limit, catch-all, and @pm.me. Pass/SimpleLogin covers unlimited hide-my-email aliases, reverse aliases, send-from-alias, custom alias domains and additional alias mailboxes.
These figures shouldn’t be added into one total: they govern separate systems with separate limits, and reverse-alias persistence and additional-mailbox caps after downgrade are unresolved.
Does Unlimited match the standalone Proton plans?
Proton Unlimited doesn’t provide a uniform “premium version of everything.” Equivalence is mixed and should be read product by product.
| Unlimited component | Closest standalone plan | Classification | Boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mail Plus | Partial / unresolved | Complete current comparison absent | |
| Calendar | Paid Calendar (via Mail plans) | Substantially equivalent / unresolved | Full sharing-parity comparison absent |
| VPN | VPN Plus | Substantially equivalent | Full platform parity unresolved |
| Drive | Standalone Drive plan | Bundle-specific | Shared 500 GB differs from a standalone allocation |
| Pass | Pass Plus | Substantially equivalent | SimpleLogin and storage boundaries remain |
| SimpleLogin | SimpleLogin Premium | Partial | Selected premium alias features only |
| Wallet | Standalone Wallet tier | Bundle-specific / unresolved | Standalone mapping incomplete |
The remaining items sit outside this equivalence comparison rather than inside it: Docs is included through Drive rather than sold as a standalone plan; Sheets’ equivalence is unresolved; Sentinel is a bundle feature with no standalone plan to compare against; Scribe is trial-only against any continuing plan; Meet and Lumo are not equivalent to their paid tiers (Meet Professional and Lumo Plus); and Authenticator is the same free product either way, so standalone comparison doesn’t apply.
What changes from Proton Free?
Upgrading brings genuine limit and feature increases: larger base storage (up to 500 GB), more Mail addresses (15) and custom domains (3), catch-all, Bridge access, more calendars (up to 25), premium VPN access with 10 simultaneous connections, a larger Drive allocation with premium features, more Pass vaults (50, versus 2 free) and unlimited aliases (versus 10 free), higher Wallet limits (10 wallets of 10 accounts each, versus 3 of 3 free), and Sentinel.
Some things don’t change: Pass’s basic entry count is already unlimited on Free, Authenticator/Meet/Lumo remain the same free products regardless of plan, Docs is available through Drive independent of plan, and Sheets’ status is unresolved on both tiers.
| Capability | Free | Unlimited | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Users | One | One | No household upgrade |
| Storage | Free allocation | 500 GB base | Quota increase |
| Mail addresses | Basic allowance | 15 | Limit increase |
| Custom domains | Not comparable | 3 | Paid entitlement |
| Catch-all | Not available at free level | Included | Paid function |
| Bridge | Generally unavailable | Included | Paid interoperability |
| Calendars | Up to 3 | Up to 25 | Limit increase |
| VPN connections | 1 | 10 | Limit increase |
| Drive | Free quota/features | Premium, larger quota | Paid entitlement |
| Pass vaults | 2 | 50 | Limit increase |
| Pass aliases | 10 | Unlimited | Limit increase |
| Wallet | 3 x 3 | 10 x 10 | Limit increase |
| Sentinel | Not included | Included | Paid account feature |
| Scribe | Not included | 14-day trial | Promotional only |
| Meet / Lumo / Authenticator | Free | Free | Unchanged |
| Docs | Available through Drive | Available through Drive | Not uniquely added |
| Sheets | Unresolved | Unresolved | Transition not established |
What happens after cancellation or downgrade?
Paid access normally continues to the billing boundary. Limits fall to Free-tier levels after downgrade, and using a product beyond its new limit can restrict some functions. VPN reverts to the Free tier, and storage bonuses may be lost. Post-downgrade behavior was not fully established in the reviewed public evidence for most individual products.
| Area | What is established | What remains unclear |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | Paid access continues to billing boundary | Regional/app-store handling |
| Mail and Calendar | Free-tier limits apply after downgrade; some addresses may need disabling; excess calendars affected | Retained-address order; custom-domain reactivation; excess-calendar access |
| VPN | Reverts to Free VPN | Active sessions/profiles |
| Drive and storage | Upload/sync may restrict over quota; export generally possible while accessible; storage bonuses removed | Link, version and trash handling; Docs read-only state; Sheets downgrade path entirely; legacy bonus treatment |
| Pass and aliases | Free supports 2 vaults and 10 aliases; basic entries remain unlimited | Which specific vaults/aliases continue; SimpleLogin feature continuity |
| Wallet and Sentinel | Lower Wallet limits expected; Sentinel eligibility likely ends | Exact Wallet post-downgrade state; Sentinel history/disable behavior |
| Free products and trials | Authenticator, Meet and Lumo stay on their free entitlements; Scribe trial ends | Scribe’s consumer add-on route |
The number of products with independently unresolved downgrade behavior is itself a complexity signal about bundling and switching: it is not proof of deletion, permanent loss of access, or lock-in.
Who is Proton Unlimited most coherent for?
Proton Unlimited is likely to feel most coherent for existing Mail users extending into other products, subscribers who combine Mail, Calendar, Drive and Pass day to day, custom-domain and alias-heavy users, and anyone wanting a single privacy-focused account covering communication, credentials and account monitoring together.
It’s likely to feel weaker for subscribers who care mainly about VPN, anyone expecting one unified desktop application, users needing complete Linux parity, households (Unlimited is single-user: Duo and Family exist for multi-user needs), and anyone expecting a full replacement for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, given Sheets’ unresolved status.
Final feature judgment
The paid core is confirmed and substantial across Mail, Calendar, VPN, Drive, Pass and Wallet, but it sits alongside distinctly different entitlement classes (embedded tools, an account-level feature, a time-limited trial, and free products the subscription doesn’t change) that shouldn’t be treated as equivalent. A defined set of genuine workflows connect specific product pairs, most clearly Mail–Calendar, Mail–Drive and Pass–SimpleLogin.
Against that, most of the portfolio still requires its own separate application, with platform support that varies unevenly. The bundle’s newer additions sit at meaningfully different maturity stages than its mature core.
Proton Unlimited works convincingly as one subscription and less convincingly as one application suite. Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Pass create several useful shared workflows, but VPN, Wallet and the wider Proton catalogue remain largely separate product experiences. The result is a commercially coherent bundle with selective integration, not one seamless product.
FAQ
Is Proton Unlimited multi-user? No. Proton Unlimited is a single-user subscription. Product and device counts (addresses, calendars, vaults, wallets) do not create additional users.
Is Proton Sheets included? Sheets is embedded inside Drive, but its consumer availability under Proton Unlimited is unresolved and its rollout is described as staged. It shouldn’t be treated as a confirmed standard entitlement.
Does Proton Unlimited include full SimpleLogin Premium? No. Unlimited includes selected SimpleLogin-derived capabilities through Pass (custom alias domains, additional mailboxes, and sending from aliases) but complete standalone SimpleLogin Premium equivalence has not been established.
Is Scribe a permanent Proton Unlimited feature? No. Scribe is a 14-day trial embedded in the Mail composer, with no established continuing standard entitlement.
Are Meet, Lumo and Authenticator paid Unlimited features? Authenticator remains a free standalone product, while Meet and Lumo remain on their free entitlements. Proton Unlimited does not provide a paid upgrade for any of the three: Meet Professional and Lumo Plus are both sold separately.
What happens to my data after downgrade? General restrictions apply: lower limits, and some functions may restrict if usage exceeds the new plan. Most product-specific outcomes were not fully established in the reviewed public evidence.
